Preity Zinta Slams Online Cynicism: 'Appreciating Your PM Shouldn't Be a Crime'

Actor Preity Zinta is fed up with the rise of online trolling and the negativity on social media, where folks are quick to judge celebrities just from their posts. She's urging everyone to relax a bit.

Preity is feeling frustrated

On Friday, Preity hopped on X, which used to be Twitter, to share her frustration about the increasing negativity on social media.

“What’s going on with people online? Everyone seems so jaded. If someone mentions their first chat with an AI Bot, folks assume it’s a paid ad. If you show some love for your PM, you’re labeled a bhakt (follower), and heaven forbid if you’re a proud Hindu or Indian, then you’re just an Andh Bhakt (blind follower),” Preity expressed.

She urged everyone to keep it genuine. “Let’s accept people for who they are, not who we think they should be! Maybe we all need to relax a bit and just enjoy talking to one another,” she added.

Preity, anticipating some potential criticism, decided to tackle the burning question head-on: why she chose to marry Gene Goodenough.

She playfully wrote, “Now don’t ask me why I married Gene? I married him because I love him (heart emoji). There’s someone across the border who would give his life for me. If you know, you know.”

When someone pointed out that celebrities responding to online negativity might be feeding the trolls by giving them attention, Preity replied, “I think you all forget that we didn’t grow up with technology, so it can feel a bit strange, and there’s a lot of curiosity about AI.”

She continued, “On the other hand, I really prefer face-to-face interactions, and I barely have time to be online since I’m busy with my little ones. Back in the day, we had these awesome Pzchats where we’d pick a topic and everyone would join in. I hope to get back to those chats when I have a bit more free time.”

Preity's family background

Preity Zinta got married to Gene Goodenough in 2016 in Los Angeles. They became parents to twins, a son named Jai and a daughter named Gia, through surrogacy on November 11, 2021. Recently, Preity posted about her mixed emotions as Gia and Jai began their school journey. On Instagram, she shared, "Feeling both excited and nervous for my little ones starting school. I can’t believe the time has come, and my mom schedule is totally packed!"

Preity is making her return to the big screen

Preity is gearing up to make her comeback in the Hindi film scene with Rajkumar Santoshi's Lahore 1947. This film is a big deal for her as it's her first appearance on screen after taking a break. Lahore 1947, produced by Aamir Khan's company, also highlights a notable partnership between the lead actor Sunny Deol and Aamir Khan's Productions.
