Actor Pratibha Ranta has taken significant strides in her career with her debut film, Laapataa Ladies, which has been selected as India's official entry for the Oscars 2025. Despite the film not securing an Oscar nomination, the actress expresses her gratitude for the recognition and the myriad opportunities that have arisen from the film's success.

In a recent interview, Pratibha discussed her experience of channeling Urmila Matondkar in a reimagined version of the song Rangeela Re for Crocs as part of their Holi campaign. She also shared her plans for the festival and her life following Laapataa Ladies.

Regarding her Holi plans

Pratibha mentioned that this year will be a working Holi for her. “I will be shooting on Holi and will not participate in the festivities this year. However, I cherish the wonderful memories I have of the festival. When I lived in Shimla, it was quite cold during this season, and we typically refrained from playing Holi with water,” she recounted.

The actor further elaborated, “I recall going out for Holi with umbrellas to avoid getting soaked before reaching my destination, as I wanted to keep my outfit intact. However, Holi in Mumbai is enjoyable due to the pleasant weather. We can incorporate water and colors into the celebrations, making it a delightful experience for me.”

On channeling Urmila Matondkar

Pratibha recently honored Urmila Matondkar's legendary style by featuring in a reimagined music video for the popular song "Rangeela Re," created for a Holi campaign. 

She emphasizes that her intention was not to replicate the original performance. “No one can surpass what Urmila ma’am has accomplished. We aimed to enjoy the song as it perfectly embodies the spirit of Holi. Urmila ma’am is an iconic actor and dancer, and her talent is unmatched,” she states.

The actress shares, “While filming the video, I found myself continuously watching the original and pondering how she executed it so beautifully. The choreography draws inspiration from the original as well.”

Reflecting on the day of the shoot, Pratibha notes, “It was a very demanding experience. Prior to the shoot, I had no idea it would be so intense; I merely anticipated dancing and colors. This was my first time performing in front of a camera, and I now realize the significant effort that goes into it.”

On life after Laapataa Ladies

Regarding her life after "Laapataa Ladies," Pratibha gained recognition for her role in the film, which received international acclaim as India's official entry for the Oscars 2025. However, it did not make it to the shortlist.

“I was not disheartened when the film did not advance to the shortlist. Being selected as the country’s official entry was a remarkable achievement for me, especially considering it was my debut film. I did not foresee such an honor. It exceeded my expectations, and I was grateful for the opportunity, as it positively impacted my career,” she reflects.

How did it change things for Pratibha Ranta?

Currently, I am setting ambitious goals for my upcoming project. My aspirations have expanded significantly, she states.

Pratibha elaborates, "The film has positively transformed my life. I now possess the ability to make choices. I have clarity regarding my ambitions. I can push my boundaries as an actor... At this juncture, I am eager to explore new avenues, which is only feasible if one has established credibility with their initial project and garnered audience appreciation."

Presently, she finds herself "in a very exhilarating position" where she is able to delve into new narratives. "I am genuinely astonished by the remarkable talent of writers who are crafting such exceptional scripts. The overall atmosphere is incredibly uplifting. It is a wonderful time to be involved in this industry."

Following Laapataa Ladies, Pratibha has engaged in several projects, which she assures will be revealed "very soon." "They promise to be enjoyable and distinct," she concludes with enthusiasm.
