Prakash Raj Clarifies Betting App Controversy: "Forgive My Mistake from 8 Years Ago"

Telangana police have lodged a First Information Report (FIR) against 25 celebrities and influencers for supposedly endorsing illegal betting and gambling apps on their social media. Actor Prakash Raj has spoken out about the situation, mentioning that while he initially agreed to the advertisement nine years back, he later chose not to renew his contract.
What Prakash Raj mentioned
In a video shared on his X account, Prakash addressed the situation, stating, “I ask questions of others, so I need to respond as well. Here’s my response: I haven’t received any summons or anything from the police. But when I do, I will certainly respond. It’s my duty to do so. Back in June 2016, the folks at Junglee Rummy reached out to me for an ad for their gaming app, and I went ahead with it. However, after a few months, I realized it wasn’t the right fit for me, but I was unable to back out since I had signed a year-long contract with them.”
My conscience won't allow it
He mentioned, “They wanted to renew the contract, but I declined. I can’t go along with that; my conscience won’t allow it. This was about 9 years ago, and since then, I haven’t participated in any ads promoting online gambling. In 2021, I believe the company sold the app to someone else, who then used a few clips of me on social media. We reached out to them with a notice and an email, making it clear that I’m not involved anymore. I told them they couldn’t use my clips without permission since the contract had expired. They stopped after that. I want to make it clear that I’ve made a conscious choice not to endorse betting apps. I urge all young people to avoid falling into the trap of gambling, as it can destroy lives. Just say no to betting apps.”
He wrapped up by saying, “I felt it was important to clarify this, and I hope you can forgive my one mistake from 8 years ago. Thank you.”
The complaint states that these celebrities are reportedly receiving significant payments to promote various betting platforms, which entice users to gamble their hard-earned money. Some of the celebrities mentioned include Rana Daggubati, Vijay Deverakonda, Lakshmi Manchu, Praneetha, Nidhi Agarwal, Ananya Nagella, Siri Hanumanthu, Sreemukhi, and Varshini Sounderajan.
