Actor Pooja Hegde has been actively engaged in promoting her latest film, Deva, in which she stars alongside Shahid Kapoor. However, her recent remarks regarding her 2020 film Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo, in which she appeared with Allu Arjun, have sparked confusion and anger among internet users. Pooja referred to Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo as a Tamil film rather than a pan-India production. The film, directed by Trivikram Srinivas, was originally made in Telugu and achieved significant box office success.

What Pooja said

“Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo is actually a Tamil film; it was not a pan-India film. However, people watched it in Hindi. Therefore, if the work is commendable, it will reach audiences,” she stated during an interview with ANI while promoting Deva.

How the internet reacted

Her comments were met with backlash from fans as the video circulated on social media. Many criticized the actress for her perceived lack of respect for the industry, despite her involvement in it. One user remarked, “Tollywood should boycott such actresses. We should provide more opportunities to our Telugu actresses.” Another commented, “Even if it was a slip of the tongue, it is a serious error for a South Indian actress regarding her own project!” A user added, “Urvashi 2.0,” while another noted, “She is in Urvashi Rautela mode.”

One comment read, “I think she has forgotten the hero's name as well.” Another stated, “She seems to believe that Tollywood is the Tamil film industry. She doesn’t even know the language of the movie she is working on.” A further comment expressed, “This is unacceptable; when you are working here, you should at least be aware of that.”

Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo, which was both written and directed by Trivikram Srinivas, featured a cast that included Allu Arjun, Pooja Hegde, Tabu, Jayaram, Sushanth, and Nivetha Pethuraj. Produced by Allu Aravind and S Radha Krishna, the film became the second highest Indian release in 2020 and received the National Award for Best Music Direction.

A Hindi remake of the film, titled Shehzada, was also produced, featuring Kartik Aaryan and Kriti Sanon in the lead roles, and was released in 2022.
