Actor Pooja Hegde expressed her astonishment upon learning that individuals are financially compensated to troll her on social media platforms. In a recent interview, she described it as unsettling that public relations tactics are frequently misused to target and undermine actors, revealing a darker aspect of the entertainment industry.

Pooja reveals

In her conversation with Filmfare, Pooja candidly discussed the issue of negative PR strategies and targeted trolling.

She remarked, “There have been numerous instances that left me shocked. I am not particularly skilled in PR. I recall a period when I was relentlessly trolled by meme pages, and I wondered why they were consistently spreading negativity about me. It felt deliberate. People are investing significant amounts of money to disparage others. When I discovered this, it deeply troubled both my parents and me. However, I also viewed it as a form of flattery because if someone feels compelled to bring you down, it indicates that you are above them. I kept reassuring my parents that everything was fine. Yet, eventually, it became overwhelming. I learned that individuals were spending substantial sums just to troll me.”

Pooja further revealed that after directing her team to investigate the origins of the negativity by reaching out to popular meme pages, she was horrified to find that the trolling was indeed a monetized activity, with people being paid to disseminate harmful content.

She added, “I instructed my team to contact the meme pages and inquire about the issue. They responded, 'This is the amount we are being paid. If you want to stop it or retaliate, this is the cost.' To me, it was utterly bizarre. People accept such narratives without understanding the reasons behind my trolling. Occasionally, I come across a particularly vile comment, check the profile, and discover it lacks a display picture or any posts. These are merely paid bots.”

Pooja’s upcoming work

Pooja was last featured in the film Deva alongside Shahid Kapoor. The movie received a mixed reception from critics and did not perform well at the box office, leaving little impression on viewers. Her upcoming project is with Varun Dhawan in Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai, which is characterized as a "commercial entertainer."
