Tamil actor Vijay organized an Iftar gathering in Chennai on Friday. According to a report by News18, the Tamil Nadu Sunnat Jamath has lodged a complaint against the actor with the Chennai Police Commissioner’s office, alleging that he insulted Muslims during the event.

The report indicates that Syed Kous, the treasurer of the Tamil Nadu Sunnat Jamath, addressed the media regarding the organization's grievances against Vijay. He allegedly stated, “Muslims were disrespected during the Iftar event organized by Vijay. We believe that the presence of intoxicated individuals and troublemakers, who had no connection to fasting or Iftar, has offended the Muslim community.”

Syed further remarked that the event was conducted in a ‘disrespectful manner,’ criticizing Vijay for failing to ‘apologize’ for the way the Iftar unfolded. He claimed that the arrangements were inadequate and that Vijay’s ‘foreign security personnel’ treated attendees with disrespect, likening their treatment to that of cattle. “It is imperative that legal action be pursued against Vijay to prevent a recurrence of such incidents. Our complaint is not motivated by a desire for publicity,” he added.

Vijay hosted the Iftar on Friday at the Royapettah YMCA grounds. The actor donned a skull cap during the celebrations, participated in the prayers, and shared an Iftar meal with the guests. Numerous images and videos from the event circulated widely on social media.

Vijay was last observed in Venkat Prabhu’s 2024 production, The GOAT, and is currently engaged in the filming of H Vinoth’s Jana Nayagan. This upcoming film features Pooja Hegde, Mamitha Baiju, and Bobby Deol and will mark his final project before he participates in the 2026 elections. During a recent event, the actor stated that he would refrain from accepting any further film roles while responding to critics. Last year, Vijay established his political party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK).
