Filmmaker Karthik Subbaraj is preparing for the upcoming release of his film Retro, featuring Suriya in the lead role. The film is set to hit theatres on May 1. Described as a romantic action drama, this project will be Karthik Subbaraj's inaugural collaboration with the actor. Recently, the director stated that Retro is poised to be his most commercially successful film since Petta, which he directed with Rajinikanth in the lead.

Karthik Subbaraj, a notable figure in the Tamil film industry, generated considerable anticipation with the announcement of his collaboration with actor Suriya for an upcoming film. Entitled Retro, this project is set to premiere on May 1.

Having made a remarkable debut with the horror heist film Pizza, the director has since produced several acclaimed works, including Jigarthanda and Iraivi. In a recent interview, he drew a comparison between his film Petta, featuring Rajinikanth, and Suriya’s Retro. Here are his insights.

I believe that audiences will appreciate Retro. Based on my previous films, I would categorise Retro as a more mainstream project, particularly following Petta. My aim has always been to blend artistic elements within the mainstream framework, although the balance may differ. While Petta is a purely commercial film, Retro offers a greater mix of enjoyment and emotional depth, and I am eager to see how viewers respond to it, he remarked.

Essential Information about Retro  

Starring Suriya, known for his role in 7 Aum Arivu, this film represents his 44th project. In addition to Suriya, the cast includes Pooja Hegde, Jayaram, Joju George, and Karunakaran. Retro is set to be released in several languages, including Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Hindi, and Kannada.

The film's music is composed by Santhosh Narayanan, and the recently launched single Kanimaa has quickly gained popularity on social media.
