Pedro Pascal recently opened up about his experience filming Season 2 of The Last of Us. In a recent press conference, the 49-year-old actor shared that working on the much-anticipated HBO series put him in an “unhealthy mindset.” With the second season set five years after the first, the dynamics of the show have shifted significantly, particularly with the strained relationship between Joel and Ellie shaping the direction of the upcoming episodes.

Pascal shared his thoughts during the London West Hollywood press conference, as reported by Forbes, saying that his first day on set was a wonderful experience, especially since he got to film a scene with Bella in a close, personal setting. He admitted that capturing the “painful” conflict between his character, Joel, and Bella Ramsey's Ellie was quite challenging.

“There’s a really tough emotional gap between them in that scene, but we still managed to joke around and have a good time on set,” Pascal noted, mentioning that having fun with Ramsey while filming was “incredibly comforting.”

He described the experience as “like coming home.” The seasoned actor expressed gratitude for being back, but also acknowledged that this particular experience was difficult for him to separate from the emotions the characters were experiencing, which he felt wasn’t very healthy.

Pascal mentioned that he could “kind of feel their pain,” referring to Joel and Ellie, and admitted, “I guess I was in an unhealthy mindset,” according to Variety. In another part of the interview, he reflected on how the show has affected him. “This job has definitely opened a new chapter in my life in a significant way, thanks to the personal journey I went through while making the show, and of course, how it was received by everyone,” he said.
