Payal Kapadia Reflects on "All We Imagine As Light" Missing Out at the Golden Globes: "We Didn't Win, But..."

Payal Kapadia's film, All We Imagine As Light, did not secure any awards at the 2025 Golden Globes, despite receiving nominations in two categories. Nevertheless, the experience proved to be memorable for her. She expressed that she is departing with treasured memories.

On Monday, subsequent to the award ceremony, Payal expressed her feelings on Instagram regarding her absence from the list of award winners. The ceremony was held in Los Angeles on Sunday.

After participating in the film event, she posted a photograph with the producers of All We Imagine As Light, reflecting on the experience of not winning.

In the image, she is seen alongside Thomas Hakim, Julien Graff, and Ranabir Das as they prepare to attend the Golden Globes ceremony.

"Although we didn't secure any awards, we had an incredible time," Payal wrote in the caption of the picture shared on her Instagram story.

The filmmaker expressed her gratitude towards designer Payal Khandwala and stylist Indrakshi Pattanaik for her ensemble. 

She remarked, “I would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to @payalkhandwala for this incredible outfit... and to @styledbyindrakshi for being the most gracious and intelligent stylist, who made me feel exceptionally confident.”

For the award ceremony, Payal donned a handwoven jumpsuit made from lightweight matte silk. This elegant black jumpsuit is adorned with intricate brocade detailing on the pockets and features the brand's signature loop neck design, resulting in a chic and refined silhouette.

No win for All We Imagine As Light

Payal's groundbreaking film All We Imagine As Light did not secure any victories at the Golden Globe awards. The film was defeated in the Best Non-English Language Motion Picture category by France's Emilia Perez during the 82nd edition of the awards ceremony. Additionally, she was unable to claim the esteemed Best Director award, which was awarded to Brady Corbet for The Brutalist.

About the film

All We Imagine As Light made history as the first Indian film to secure the Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival last year. The film tells the touching tale of two Malayali nurses, Prabha and Anu. Prabha's world is turned upside down when she receives an unforeseen gift from her estranged husband, while Anu faces challenges in seeking a private space for intimacy with her partner. Directed by Payal Kapadia, this tribute to Mumbai showcases performances by Kani Kusruti, Divya Prabha, Chhaya Kadam, and Hridhu Haroon.
