The Deputy Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh and actor Pawan Kalyan intends to balance his dual careers in acting and politics. In an interview with Thanthi TV, he expressed his long-standing desire to serve the public while also indicating that he will continue acting until he no longer requires financial support. Here are his insights.
Pawan Kalyan on which he will continue to act
Pawan's political party, Janasena Party, successfully secured all the seats it contested in Andhra Pradesh in alliance with the Telugu Desam Party and the Bharatiya Janata Party. Nevertheless, the actor-politician affirmed his intention to pursue acting due to prior commitments to various projects. He remarked, “I have drawn significant inspiration from figures like Henry David Thoreau, yogis, and siddhars. Engaging in selfless work for the community has always been my goal. I have never accumulated wealth or ventured into business, including film production. My sole source of income is through cinema. Since I have made commitments to films, I must fulfill them.”
When questioned about how he would navigate potential criticisms of being a ‘part-time actor’ or ‘part-time politician,’ Pawan highlighted that numerous politicians successfully manage their businesses alongside their political responsibilities. “Many leaders operate their own businesses. If they can excel in both areas, so can I. It requires a deep passion for both acting and political leadership for this to succeed. Throughout my acting career, I have been learning about administration and studying public policy since the mid-90s. As long as I require financial resources, I intend to continue acting, all while ensuring I do not compromise my political and administrative duties,” he stated.
Upcoming work
Pawan was last featured in the 2023 film Bro alongside his nephew Sai Durgha Tej. He had accepted several projects prior to his campaign for the Andhra Pradesh elections and subsequent appointment as Deputy Chief Minister. He still has to complete filming for Krish and AM Jyothi Krishna’s Hari Hara Veera Mallu, Sujeeth’s They Call Him OG, and Harish Shankar’s Ustaad Bhagat Singh.
