Actor Robert Pattinson may soon join the impressive cast of Dune 3. Director Denis Villeneuve is preparing to reunite with Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, and Florence Pugh for the concluding installment of this acclaimed film series. Filming is expected to commence this summer, and recent reports indicate that Pattinson is in preliminary discussions to take on a significant role.

As reported by Deadline, the star of The Batman is being considered for the role of the antagonist in Dune 3, which is based on Frank Herbert's 1969 novel Dune: Messiah. Pattinson is rumored to portray Scytale, a mysterious, shape-shifting character who plots to usurp Paul Atreides, a role played by Timothée in the award-winning franchise.

Following the tremendous success of Dune: Part 2, which grossed $1.2 billion and garnered eight Oscars from 15 nominations, Legendary Pictures has confirmed that development for Dune 3 is officially in progress.

In a prior interview with Vanity Fair, director Denis Villeneuve emphasized that the Dune series will conclude with this third film. He stated, “It’s important for people to understand that for me, it was really a diptych. It was a pair of films that adapt the first book. That’s complete. If I create a third one, which is currently being written, it won’t be a trilogy. It’s peculiar to say, but if I return to this universe, it will be to create something that feels distinct and possesses its own identity.”

Robert Pattinson's current projects

Currently, Pattinson is working on Christopher Nolan’s adaptation of The Odyssey. He has recently completed filming for the A24 project The Drama, which also features Zendaya. Additionally, he has finished work on Lynne Ramsay's film Die, My Love, where he stars alongside Jennifer Lawrence. This film is expected to be released later this year.
