IC814 The Kandahar Hijack received a positive response from critics and audiences upon its OTT release on Netflix. At the same time, the series, based on Captain Devi Sharan's memoir, has been mired in controversy. A few days ago, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting summoned Netflix India's content head over the show for allegedly distorting facts and offending public sentiment. In an interview with Hindustan Times, Patralekhaa defended her web show.
Patralekhaa on IC814 The Kandahar Hijack
IC814 The Kanadar Hijack has portrayed the 1999 IC-814 hijacking incident as a web series. Speaking about her Netflix series with HT, Patralekhaa said, "This is not a documentary, clearly. It’s a show that has been written and, obviously, some parts have been imagined." For those who are unaware, it was also alleged that the makers gave 'Hindu names' to Pakistani terrorists in the series.
Patralekhaa added that she doesn't think many characters in IC814 The Kandahar Hijack have 'real names' of the ones who were concerned with the incident. The 34-year-old stated storytelling in such circumstances is about 'respecting' the material and bringing your own 'interpretation' to it.

The actress further recalled portraying the character of an air hostess, worried about her father's ailing health in the face of a terror attack. "The environment was very intense. We were inside a plane set with a large team — technicians, junior actors, actors’ staff — and it felt very claustrophobic. The physical space and the situation naturally brought me to the emotional state needed," she mentioned. Despite all the prep, Patralekhaa revealed it was a different experience once she was in front of the camera.
Directed by Anubhav Sinha, IC814 The Kandahar Hijack featured Vijay Varma, Dia Mirza, Pankaj Kapur, Naseeruddin Shah, Arvind Swamy, and others. Did you enjoy watching the show on streaming? Share your thoughts @ottplayapp on X.
