By now, the very name of Chandan Roy Sanyal has become extremely synonymous with a no-nonsense actor, who will not mind walking any extra mile to add authenticity to the characters that he plays. There are many testimonies to the same. One such testimony will be soon in the form of the upcoming release ‘Patna Shuklla’, in which he will be seen playing the role of a lawyer for the first time in his entire career.

Chandan, how did the film Patna Shuklla happen to you and what made you say yes to the film?

When the role came to me, the Executive Producer of the film, got me connected with Arbaaz saahab (Arbaaz Khan). Post that, I had a meeting with Arbaaz sir and also with the director of the film. And after I heard the narration, the first thing which came to my mind was the film starring Al Pacino playing a lawyer. (He was referring to the film ‘Justice For All’). I did not go the cliché way while playing a lawyer. And this is what gave me a lot of confidence.

Were there any references for the role that you are playing or was it a total organic approach to the role?
Even though it was organic, still… there were some things which I needed to find out what lawyers do… I mean the finer points and the nuances. I saw a lot of videos about courtroom cases on.

Till date, you have been a part of many projects wherein you have portrayed varied characters. In what way do you ensure that there is no hangover of any previous character/s?
I give a lot of time between one work to the other. I am not into jumping from one ship to the other at the same time. That way, it helps me enjoy that one part (one particular character), one team. Also, playing the characters is not about enjoying one’s own part, but it’s also to enjoy other people's work to see how they have shaped up. It’s also about spending some time with them and understanding the readings and being on set every day. Such kind of connections, and the relations go a long way.
