Punjabi singer and actor Parmish Verma recently made his debut in Hindi-language OTT content with the new show Kanneda on JioHotstar. However, before displaying his acting skills, his clean-shaven appearance caught the audience off guard. The actor admitted that this look also took him and his close associates by surprise.

Parmish Verma on shaving his beard

Parmish Verma has maintained a prominent beard since rising to fame. When asked if he had any reservations about shaving it off for a role, he responds, "At first, I did. There is a certain comfort and familiarity with your appearance. However, I considered the confidence of the show's creators. When they requested that I shave my beard, I engaged in a discussion with the production team. I expressed my concerns, saying, 'Millions admire me for my appearance. I have a specific on-screen persona that resonates with my audience.' They encouraged me to think beyond my current followers, pointing out that many are unfamiliar with me or my image. They emphasized, 'We chose you based on your talent, not your follower count.'"

Parmish acknowledges that the producers took a risk by casting him. "Numerous actors without beards auditioned, yet I was chosen because they recognized something unique in me. Having that level of trust in my abilities is significant. It was a bold decision on their part," he reflects.

On transforming into Nimma

The actor expressed his pleasant surprise at the positive response to his appearance. Reflecting on a particular incident, he shared, "A friend of mine failed to recognize me in the trailer. I had sent it to him upon its release, but he didn't respond, thinking I was involved in production. A few days later, while watching the India-Pakistan match during the Champions Trophy last month, he saw the trailer and exclaimed, 'Yaar ye trailer to tera hai (This is your trailer)'. That moment convinced me that I resemble Nimma, my character, rather than Parmish."

The series, titled Kanneda, features Parmish alongside Mohammed Zeeshan Ayub, Ranvir Shorey, Aadar Malik, and Jasmin Bajwa. It debuted on JioHotstar on March 22.
