Paresh Rawal on Ranveer Singh’s Padmaavat Method Acting: "This Is Not the Right Way"
25 days ago | 5 Views
Actor Ranveer Singh disclosed that immersing himself in the role of Alauddin Khilji in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmaavat was such a profound experience that the character lingered with him long after filming had concluded. Is this level of intense acting beneficial? Paresh Rawal expressed a differing opinion during an interview with Siddharth Kannan.
What Paresh Rawal said
A segment of the interview emerged on Reddit, featuring Paresh expressing his dissent regarding the method acting approach. The host recounted how Ranveer revealed that he experienced depression following the filming of Padmaavat, with the character lingering in his mind. In response, Paresh remarked, "If you engage in such practices, then it is an incorrect method. One should possess a witness mentality. Let me ask you, no matter how much alcohol you consume, you still return home to your mother or your wife to sleep. That is the witness mentality, is it not?"
He concluded by saying, “Ye galat hain ki main role mein ghus gaya tha… toh kisi ko chaku maar doge aap (This is wrong that for a role you forget everything… so one can also stab someone like that)?”
Reddit reacts
Numerous users on Reddit expressed disagreement with Paresh's reasoning, suggesting that both perspectives in the discussion could coexist. One user remarked, “What kind of explanation was that? While I understand his point that one should not be overly invested in a role after its completion, he could have articulated it more effectively.”
Another user stated, “Although I hold him in high regard, he is mistaken because that is not his approach. Heath Ledger serves as one example, and Vikram from the Tamil film industry is another. Individuals have their unique methods for delivering the best performances. Hrithik Roshan once mentioned that he isolated himself in a room for several days to fully grasp the role and character.”
A user criticized Paresh's flawed analogy, stating, “What? Did Paresh really compare sleeping in your mother's bed to that of your wife's? What kind of comparison is that? What is the actual point he is trying to convey?”
The film Padmaavat was re-released in theaters on February 6. It narrates a 13th-century story about Queen Padmavati (Deepika Padukone), renowned for her beauty and wisdom, and her husband, Maharawal Ratan Singh (Shahid Kapoor) of Mewar. The narrative unfolds as Sultan Alauddin Khilji (Ranveer Singh), fueled by obsession and ambition, invades Chittor in pursuit of Padmavati, who takes significant measures to safeguard her kingdom and its principles. Ranveer's performance garnered widespread acclaim and earned him a Filmfare Award.
