Soon After the teaser for Abir Gulaal was revealed, Fawad Khan's film faced protests in Maharashtra. MNS spokesperson Ameya Khopkar informed Dainik Bhaskar, "We just found out about this film’s release today when the creators announced it. However, we want to make it known that we will not permit this film to release in Maharashtra due to the presence of a Pakistani actor. Under no conditions will we allow such films to be released in the state. "
