Ace actor Chanchal Chowdhury will soon be seen as Mrinal Sen in Srijit Mukherji’s tribute biopic of the director Padatik. Produced by Friends Communication, the film will be released on August 15 and will also feature Monami Ghosh as Mrinal Sen’s wife, Geeta Sen.
While Srijit and Monami have been busy promoting the film, Chanchal was missing in action for a while. On Friday, the actor took to his social media and clarified the reason for his absence. In a statement, he said that his mother had been very unwell.
However, the news of his mother is not the only information Chanchal wants to give out. He further clarified his stand on the ongoing unrest in Bangladesh. He stated, “I will not be responsible if any news organisation, national or international, misuses my name to report on the current situation. This is because I have not talked to the media about the current situation. I am an artiste and I have no connection with anything else beyond my profession. I am absent from social media due to my mother’s poor health. I hope there will be peace in the country and everybody will be well.”
Chanchal travelled to the US for the NABC. After getting back, he took to his social media and expressed his grief and disappointment over the unrest in Bangladesh. “Was there no other way to douse the situation? Why were there bullets and blood?” he questioned.
Chanchal, who became a household name in West Bengal after his stupendous performance in Karagar, will be seen in Padatik years after his work with Goutam Ghose in Moner Manush. Soon before the shooting of Padatik started, Chanchal lost his father. Talking about his performance, Srijit said in an interview with OTTplay, “It wasn’t easy to surrender yourself when you were going through this personal loss. It was a gruelling schedule and his (Chanchal’s) involvement was incredible.”
