Wildfires in and around Los Angeles have resulted in the destruction of numerous homes belonging to celebrities, prompting evacuations for stars such as Mark Hamill, Mandy Moore, and James Woods. On Wednesday, Moore, Cary Elwes, and Paris Hilton were among those who reported that they had lost their residences to the flames.
Additionally, Adam Brody, Leighton Meester, Fergie, Anna Faris, Anthony Hopkins, and John Goodman have also indicated that their homes have been affected as the catastrophic fire continues to spread in the Los Angeles area.
About the California wildfires
California firefighters are engaged in a fierce battle against rapidly spreading fires fueled by strong winds, which are devastating the region, demolishing homes, obstructing roadways, and forcing tens of thousands to evacuate. The situation has placed immense strain on resources as the flames continued to rage uncontrollably on Wednesday.
The Pacific Palisades neighbourhood, a coastal hillside area known for its celebrity residences, has seen many of its famous inhabitants evacuate as the fires threaten their properties. “Evacuated Malibu so last minute,” Hamill shared in an Instagram post on Tuesday night. “Small fires on both sides of the road as we approached (the Pacific Coast Highway).”
Stars who lost homes in the wildfires
Cary Elwes, renowned for his role in The Princess Bride and various other films, shared on Instagram on Wednesday that while his family is safe, their residence has been lost to the coastal Palisades fire. Elwes expressed, “Regrettably, we have lost our home, but we are thankful to have survived this profoundly devastating fire.”
Paris Hilton also took to Instagram to share a news video clip that featured images of her Malibu home, which was destroyed. She remarked, “This home was where we created countless cherished memories. It is where Phoenix took his first steps and where we envisioned building a lifetime of memories with London,” referring to her young children.
“The extent of the devastation is beyond comprehension. It is truly heartbreaking to realize that so many are waking up today without the place they once called home,” she added.
TMZ footage revealed that Leighton Meester's $6.5 million mansion in Los Angeles was also consumed by the wildfire, along with the residence of Black Eyed Peas singer Fergie.
Stars who have evacuated due to the Palisades fire
Jamie Lee Curtis announced on Instagram on Wednesday that her family is safe, although she indicated that her neighbourhood and possibly her residence are threatened by fire. She expressed concern for many of her friends who have lost their homes, stating, “It’s a terrifying situation, and I am thankful to the firefighters and all the good Samaritans assisting those in danger from the flames.”
Mandy Moore also shared that her family has evacuated and has been attempting to protect her children from the “immense sadness and worry” she is experiencing. In her Instagram story, she expressed her sorrow over the destruction and loss, stating, “I am devastated and uncertain if our home has survived.”
Woods shared a video on Tuesday showing flames consuming bushes and encroaching upon palm trees on a hillside near his residence. The intense orange flames surged through the landscaped yards between the houses.
“Standing in my driveway, preparing to evacuate,” Woods remarked in the brief video posted on X. He later confirmed his evacuation, adding, “It truly tests your spirit to lose everything in an instant, I must say.”
Impact of the fire so far
Officials have not provided an estimate regarding the number of structures that have been damaged or destroyed in the wildfire. However, they reported that at least 70,000 residents are currently under evacuation orders, with nearly 30,000 structures at risk. Tragically, five individuals have reportedly lost their lives.
The Critics Choice Awards, which were initially set to take place on Sunday, have been rescheduled for February 26. In light of the fire and adverse windy conditions, film studios have cancelled two movie premieres, and Universal Studios Hollywood theme park has closed for the day due to the smoky and windy environment.
