Four years have passed since the release of the last Bond film, No Time to Die, and fans are now keenly anticipating the next installment in the James Bond series, particularly following Amazon's acquisition of the franchise. Speculation has arisen regarding Alfonso Cuaron's potential role as director for the upcoming film, and the director has recently commented on the validity of these rumors.
Alfonso Cuaron on directing the next James Bond film
As reported by World of Reel, Alfonso revealed during a masterclass at the Paris Cinéma Club that he is in negotiations to direct the upcoming James Bond film. He stated, “This project is indeed being discussed, and I have a strong desire — should it come to fruition — to approach this story in my unique style.”
About Alfonso
Alfonso has not officially confirmed his participation, but he has shown interest in joining the project. Should he accept the role, a new era for Bond would commence under the guidance of an Oscar-winning director. Alfonso is a distinguished filmmaker, celebrated for his critically acclaimed works such as Gravity, Children of Men, and Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. His most recent significant directorial endeavor was the semi-autobiographical film Roma, released in 2018. The upcoming Bond film would signify his return to the director's chair.
Daniel Craig rose to prominence by portraying James Bond in five films within the franchise. In total, seven actors have taken on the role of James Bond, including notable names like Sean Connery, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, and Pierce Brosnan. Following Craig's announcement that No Time to Die would be his final performance as Bond, the search for a new actor to assume the role has been ongoing since 2023.
For those unfamiliar, Amazon acquired MGM Studios in 2022 for $6.1 billion. Regarding this acquisition, Michael G. Wilson remarked, “Having spent nearly 60 remarkable years in my 007 career, I am stepping back from producing the James Bond films to concentrate on artistic and charitable endeavors. Consequently, Barbara and I concur that it is time for our trusted partner, Amazon MGM Studios, to guide James Bond into the future.”
