Casting for the upcoming Harry Potter series is currently in progress, and Cillian Murphy's name has emerged as a potential candidate for the role of the chief antagonist, Voldemort. During an appearance on Watch What Happens Live, Ralph Fiennes, who portrayed Voldemort in the Harry Potter film franchise, expressed his support for Murphy, the star of Oppenheimer.

What Ralph said

Ralph Fiennes expressed his support for Cillian Murphy potentially being cast as Voldemort in the upcoming Harry Potter series. "Cillian is a fantastic actor. That’s a wonderful suggestion. I would be all in favor of Cillian," he said. A couple of years ago, when asked if he would reprise his iconic role as Voldemort after the series was announced, Ralph told Variety, "Sure, of course. No question about it."

Ralph first portrayed Voldemort in Mike Newell's Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire in 2005, the fourth installment of the popular film franchise. He reprised the role in the subsequent four films: Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (2007), Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (2009), and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Parts 1 (2010) and 2 (2011), all directed by David Yates.

About the Harry Potter series

The series is expected to proceed with new actors for the top three characters while incorporating seasoned professionals for the adult roles, similar to the movie franchise. The films featured Richard Harris as Dumbledore, followed by Michael Gambon after Harris’s passing. The late Maggie Smith portrayed Professor McGonagall, and Alan Rickman played Professor Snape.

Warner Bros has issued an open casting call for the lead roles of Harry, Hermione, and Ron, previously played by Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint in the eight-film series. Oscar winner Mark Rylance, known for his performances in *Bridge of Spies,* *The BFG,* and *Dunkirk,* is reportedly at the top of the casting wishlist for the role of Dumbledore. Author J.K. Rowling is closely involved in the production and casting of the series, which is set to premiere on HBO.
