Seema Kapoor, the first wife of actor Om Puri, recently shared insights into their relationship and the challenges they faced during their marriage. In a chat with Siddharth Kannan on his YouTube channel, she revealed that their marriage began to crumble when she discovered he was involved with another woman while she was pregnant. Despite her desire to fix things, it spiraled beyond her control.

What Seema shared

In the conversation, Seema reflected on the filming of City of Joy, a period that added significant strain to her relationship with Om. Speaking in Hindi, she mentioned, “My close friend Renu Saluja, who was Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s first wife, was aware of the affair. However, she, along with Sudhir Mishra and others, didn’t share much with me, thinking it wasn’t serious. They believed he would return to normal after the shoot. I only learned about the affair later when I traveled to Delhi. He called to tell me he was seeing someone else, and my friends thought he was just looking for attention. But there was something in his voice that made me realize this was serious.”

He transferred ₹25,000 through his secretary

She went on to explain that Om requested a divorce and what transpired when the baby didn’t survive. “When I saw him afterward, he didn’t say a word, and I assumed everything was still fine. He soon left the city for a shoot, during which he received a lot of letters, and that’s when I stumbled upon love letters. I was devastated. I never wanted to end our marriage, even with the affair. I wanted to fix things because I was pregnant. He was aware of my pregnancy, but it made Nandita feel insecure… everything became too much; Puri sahab would drink heavily, and Nandita would create a scene. One night, I decided it was best to walk away. I still believed everything would turn out alright… that he would miss me… It wasn’t easy.”

Om Puri married Seema in 1990, but their marriage only lasted eight months. He later wed journalist Nandita Puri. The legendary actor passed away at 66 in 2017 due to a heart attack at his home in Mumbai.
