Olivia Culpo is sharing details about a health scare she experienced in the early stages of her pregnancy. Just a few days after announcing that she and her husband, Christian McCaffrey, are expecting their first child, the 32-year-old took to social media to explain that she had a subchorionic hematoma, which led to significant bleeding.

On Wednesday, the former Miss Universe posted a TikTok video that was filmed last December, where she shared that she was nine weeks into her pregnancy.

In the clip, she mentioned, “I’ve been on bed rest since week two, and before that, I had pneumonia, so I was sick for another two weeks. Overall, I’ve really been resting for about four weeks now.”

She went on to explain, “Towards the end of those two weeks of being really unwell, I developed a subchorionic hematoma, which is essentially a blood clot in my uterus. I was bleeding quite a bit,” the beauty queen added.

According to the Cleveland Clinic, a subchorionic hematoma occurs when blood collects between the uterine wall and the chorionic membrane during pregnancy.

Culpo expressed how drained she felt after two weeks of being unable to move, saying, “And then suddenly, it was like a lot of bleeding. It was pretty heavy.”

In the video, she shared her relief at seeing a heartbeat after her health scare, but her doctor advised her to stay on bed rest. “He said, 'You can’t go anywhere. No traveling. Just stay in bed,'” she recounted.

The former Miss USA also mentioned that she was using “a lot” of progesterone suppositories to create the best environment for her baby. Despite the challenges, she noted that her pregnancy was improving and expressed her gratitude that everything was going well so far.
