The Kerala Film Producers’ Association (KFPA) has been raising concerns for some time now. Their recent report indicates that out of 17 Malayalam films, only one achieved commercial success, while the largest failure garnered merely ₹10,000, as reported by The Hindu.
Malayalam films face ₹52 crore loss
The KFPA has also provided specific figures detailing the box office earnings of the 17 films to counter the trend of exaggerated claims regarding the financial performance of unsuccessful movies. The association intends to publish these figures on a monthly basis.
G. Suresh Kumar, the vice-president of KFPA, informed the media, “Among the 17 films released in February, only Officer on Duty was a success. Two films, Daveed and Bromance, might not incur losses, as they could offset the shortfall in theatre revenue through the sale of OTT and other rights.”
The association reported that the total production budget for the films released in February was approximately ₹75.23 crore, while the total revenue from theatre collections was only ₹23.55 crore. In January, a loss of ₹110 crore was recorded, with 28 films released during that month.
A breakdown of the collections
As per News18 Malayalam, KFPA provided a detailed breakdown of the films' budgets and theatre earnings.
