The most recent episode of the television series Severance prompted numerous observant fans to recognize a distinctive voice. The animated Lumon building makes an appearance in the second episode of the Apple TV series, leading many viewers to speculate whether it was Keanu Reeves providing the voice. Subsequently, the show's director, Ben Stiller, confirmed this speculation but also revealed that Reeves was the second choice for the role, with the initial choice being former US President Barack Obama.

How Obama was almost a part of Severance

In the recent episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live, Ben Stiller shared his initial belief that Barack Obama would be an ideal candidate for a voice role. He recounted, “I had a connection to someone who was acquainted with his lawyer. The lawyer mentioned that he could pass along the request if I sent an email. So, I composed an email stating, ‘Hello, we have this show, etc.’”

Stiller further revealed that Obama did reply to the email, but unfortunately, he indicated that his schedule would not permit him to participate in the show. Stiller remarked, “Two days later, I received a response from Obama, saying, ‘Hey, man! I’m a big fan of the show. I loved season 1 and am looking forward to season 2. However, I don’t believe I have the time in my schedule to make this work.’ I was left wondering, what could possibly be more significant than providing a voiceover for the animated series in Severance? Nonetheless, it was quite impressive that he took the time to respond.”
