Kani Kusruti on Getting Typecast

Kani Kusruti has emerged as one of the standout figures of the year, having received an award at the OTTplay Awards 2025 for her exceptional performances in titles such as Girls Will Be Girls, Poacher, Nagendran’s Honeymoon, and Thalaimal Seyalagam. During her acceptance speech, she highlighted the inherent versatility of all actors and their ongoing quest for diverse roles. “I am grateful to the OTTplay Awards for this recognition. I believe that every actor possesses versatility; however, we often find ourselves limited to specific roles due to typecasting,” Kani Kusruti remarked. 

She further expressed, “The actors I know possess remarkable range, and I sincerely hope we all receive varied roles that allow us to demonstrate our versatility. I have been fortunate to take on several diverse roles over the past two years, thanks to the creators who approached me, enabling me to explore different characters. Like many, I too experience typecasting frequently. I extend my gratitude to all my directors who have provided me with these opportunities, and I wish for my fellow actors to have similar chances. This award is dedicated to all of us actors who deserve the opportunity to showcase our talents.”
