Abishek Kumar received the Breakthrough Performance (Male) award for his role in the Tamil web series Thalaivettiyan Paalayam. This accolade was presented during the third edition of the OTTplay Awards 2025, which took place in Mumbai on March 22.

Known for his presence in the stand-up comedy scene, Abishek played the lead character in Thalaivettiyan Paalayam, a Tamil adaptation of the Hindi series Panchayat. He portrayed a young officer from the city who is assigned to a remote village facing numerous challenges. The series, infused with humor, was written by Balakumaran Murugesan and directed by Naga for Amazon Prime Video.

During the event, Sandeep Rao presented the award to Abishek, who shared the stage with co-hosts Aparshakti Khurana and Kubra Sait. Abishek engaged in light-hearted banter, humorously referencing Aparshakti's pun about "Priya funny," which he claimed led to Priyamani's departure. While accepting the award, Abishek expressed his gratitude, stating, "Thank you so much, everyone. Mam Kubra, I am a big fan of 'Danish.' For those wondering why I am here, I acted in the official Tamil remake of Panchayat. I would like to extend my thanks to the entire TVF team and my directors. I appreciate OTTplay for making this possible." He also conveyed his appreciation to his family by sharing a few words in Tamil.

The OTTplay Awards 2025 witnessed a gathering of prominent figures from the Indian OTT industry, all coming together to celebrate the theme "One Nation, One Award." Esteemed personalities such as Imtiaz Ali, Jyothika, Manoj Bajpayee, Anupam Kher, and others were recognized during the ceremony, which featured celebrities from various film industries, including Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, and Kannada.
