Nora Fatehi Speaks Out: Music Labels Profited from Her Free Performances
12 days ago | 5 Views
Nora Fatehi, the talented actor and dancer, gained fame through her amazing dance performances. Recently, she opened up about how music labels and producers have been profiting from her work without giving her any fair compensation. In a recent chat, she mentioned that she started to question the value of being known as the "Dilbar girl" for her kids if she isn't seeing any financial rewards from it.
Nora reflects on her thoughts
In a chat with BBC Asian Network, Nora opened up about her insights into the industry and navigating her way through it.
Nora mentioned, “When I started appearing in those viral songs that were boosting film success and driving box-office sales, I realized that a lot of people were profiting from it, except for me. There are YouTube earnings, streaming rights, and even the films benefiting from the buzz around these hit songs, while I was doing it all for free. The only money I make comes from the shows or events I participate in. Other than that, there are no intellectual properties or publishing royalties coming my way. But I get it; that’s just how it is.”
She continued, “Instead of battling the system, I figured out a way to keep doing those dance tracks without stressing over the money. I’m thankful for the chances I’ve had, but as an artist, I also need to think about long-term stability and security. Those publishing rights and royalties are crucial for building a legacy and ensuring my future. What’s the point of being known as the Dilbar girl for my kids if I can’t show any financial gain from it? Creating generational wealth is key, and that’s what I want to prioritize.”
Nora's latest project
Nora has really made a name for herself in the industry with her incredible dance skills. She's been featured in a bunch of hit dance tracks like Ek Toh Kum Zindagani, Dilbar, and O Saki Saki.
In 2024, she took on roles in Crakk, Madgaon Express, and Matka. Coming up, she’s set to appear in the Hindi film Be Happy, the Tamil movie Kanchana 4, and the Kannada flick KD - The Devil. The trailer for Be Happy just dropped, and it’s hitting Prime Video on March 14. In the film, Abhishek Bachchan plays a dad who turns to Nora for dance lessons to bring joy to his daughter. Plus, she recently teamed up with singer Jason Derulo for his song, Snake.
