35 Chianna Katha Kaadu is all set to release on September 6, 2024, and is being presented by Rana Daggubati. Nivetha Thomas plays the female lead and she talks about her role, choosing a film like 35, doing lesser films in Telugu, and future projects. Here is the transcript.

Your last Telugu film was in 2022. Why are there such long gaps between films?

I should ask the directors in Tollywood. There is a rumor stating that I am very hard to please but it is not that way. I love stories told in different genres. The moment I hear an idea, I get excited but when it comes to me again as a fly-grown script, they do not feel and sound the same. Then, I have reservations.

Saakini Daakini was a massive flop. Your take?

Like everyone on our team, I too was disappointed. I gave my 100% to the film and loved the story. We made the film with all heart but the audience did not like the pacing and the way it was narrated. I loved the film but it did not work and I understand what the audience expected when they entered the theater.

What attracted you to 35 Chianna Katha Kaadu?

The film is a mother-son story and is set in a lower-middle-class setup. How my character is written in such a detailed manner by director Nanda Kishore won my heart. My character had so much for me to showcase my talent and that is why I came on board. It is a very cute slice-of-life film that has realistic emotions which is relatable to one and all.

About your role in the film?

I play a housewife who has not even passed her tenth grade and lives with her husband and two kids in the small town of Tirupathi. How her life changes with a series of events and with the entry of a character played by Gautami is the basic story of the film. It is a simple story but told in a very endearing manner.

Getting associated with the likes of Rana Daggubati?

Stars like him are rare. If not for him, our film would have not got such exposure in such a short time. We already postponed our film once but now the timing is perfect and Rana Daggubati, the presenter, is doing things right to keep the film in the news he is the one who has given us a lot of confidence to go all out with the promotions.

Any reservations about playing a mother of two?

Not even once. I am in that transition phase and have to pick roles that give me scope as an actress and also suit my age. Playing a mother of two was bliss and I enjoyed the most while shooting. It gives you another angle in your work experience and now I can perform better than I have worked with kids as well. The emotions of the character are more important than the age.

Future Projects?

Now, I am back and am hearing multiple scripts in Telugu and Malayalam. I am in that phase of my career I am game to even produce my films if I like the script. For now, all eyes are on 35 and I am very curious to see how today's generation will embrace such a film.
