Nithya Menen is out there promoting her new Tamil movie, Kadhalikka Neramillai. In a recent chat with Cinema Vikatan, she opened up about how tough the film industry can be when it comes to dealing with illness. However, she also shared how her friend, director-actor Mysskin, has shown her that not everyone in the industry is cold-hearted.

Nithya Menen talks about her experiences in the film industry

Nithya is known for her straightforwardness, and during her interview, she talked about how her experience working with Mysskin was unlike anything else she had faced before. She opened up about how filmmakers often expect their crew to push through illness and menstrual discomfort.

She mentioned, “There’s a bit of a lack of humanity in the film industry. No matter how unwell you feel or how tough it gets, you’re still expected to show up and work. We just get used to it. No matter what, we have to keep pushing through.”

But when she filmed the 2020 movie Psycho, things were different. She remembered getting her period on the first day of shooting and dealing with a lot of pain. Nithya was pleasantly surprised by Mysskin’s understanding nature.

She shared, “For the first time, I told a male director that I was on my period. He asked if it was my first day, and that’s when I felt truly understood and cared for. He said I could take a break. Just finish this and then take it easy.”

Mysskin also chimed in, noting that he could see Nithya was uncomfortable that day and didn’t want her to do anything she wasn’t up for, emphasizing that he preferred she shoot when she felt better.

Future tasks ahead

Nithya is set to appear in Dhanush's directorial debut, Idli Kadai, where he’ll also take on the lead role. Besides that, she’s wrapped up filming for a movie called Dear Exes and will be sharing the screen with Vijay Sethupathi in his upcoming project. Mysskin hasn’t released a film since his 2020 project, Psycho. The release of Pisaasu II has been pushed back, and his film Train with Vijay Sethupathi is currently in post-production. After being seen in Leo and Devil, Mysskin is also working on Love Insurance Kompany and Dragon.
