Nishant Dahiya on Diwakar Backlash: "Men Told Me to Eat Rat Poison"
2 months ago | 5 Views
Nishant Dahiya, who recently appeared in Arati Kadav's film Mrs., initially declined the opportunity to participate in the project. The reason for his refusal stemmed from his aversion to the husband's character in the Malayalam film, The Great Indian Kitchen, as he was offered the same role in the Hindi adaptation. Despite the success of the Sanya Malhotra-led film on streaming platforms, Dahiya's portrayal of Diwakar received a mixed reception. Following the film's digital release, the actor reported receiving polarized reactions from male viewers.
Nishant Dahiya on hate for Diwakar in Mrs.
In an interview, Dahiya elaborated on the feedback regarding his character Diwakar in Mrs. He acknowledged experiencing a significant amount of 'love-hate' responses. Many individuals reached out to express their disdain for his character while simultaneously commending his performance. However, he noted that the most intense reactions came from men.
"The most extreme responses I have received have been from men! They have sent me messages saying, ‘You foolish actor, go and consume rat poison!’ and ‘Die somewhere, you scoundrel!’ If these comments had come from a woman, I might have understood, but they are coming from men. I believe it reflects their feelings towards Diwakar, indicating that something about the character resonated with them in a negative way," Nishant explained.
The actor contends that Diwakar is not inherently a 'bad' person, suggesting that he is shaped by his circumstances, which prevent him from recognizing the implications of his actions. For Dahiya, the most challenging aspect of portraying Diwakar was overcoming his initial dislike for the character from the Malayalam version. He had to set aside his previous impressions and genuinely connect with the role to deliver an authentic performance.
