Nicole Kidman Unsure About Memes from Babygirl: "I Might Be Upset"

Nicole Kidman embraces the most demanding role of her career in Babygirl. The actress is garnering significant recognition during the award season for her portrayal in this erotic drama and has been honored as Best Actress at the National Board of Review awards. However, one aspect that may concern Nicole regarding the film is the potential for memes to surface following its theatrical release later this month during the Christmas season.
What Nicole said
In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Nicole was inquired about her perspective on being memed and whether she considers it flattering. She responded, “Absolutely. One must embrace the ability to laugh at oneself. This is a distinctly Australian characteristic, yet I believe it is essential for navigating life. I am aware of my identity and strive to remain true to my authentic self. Everything else lies outside my influence. However, we shall see how the [memes from] Babygirl unfold. I might be quite disheartened by the time we converse again.”
On her mother
The actress recently experienced the loss of her mother, Janelle Ann Kidman. During an interview, she expressed her sorrow over her mother's passing before having the opportunity to see her performance in the film. “She was always the most intelligent person in any gathering. She would question all of your ideas and your work. I felt a deep sadness that she didn’t get to witness Babygirl. Her wisdom and humor were immense, and she had a wonderfully irreverent spirit. She could see through everything. She often remarked that I viewed the world through rose-colored glasses,” she shared.
In September, Nicole was honored with the Volpi Cup for Best Actress at the Venice Film Festival's closing ceremony, presented by Jury President Isabelle Huppert. During the event, director Halina Reijn took the stage to read a statement on Nicole's behalf: “Upon arriving in Venice today, I learned that my courageous and beautiful mother, Janelle Anne Kidman, had just passed away. I am in shock and need to be with my family, but I dedicate this award to her.”
In Babygirl, Nicole portrays a successful businesswoman who appears to lead a fulfilling personal life alongside her husband, played by Antonio Banderas. However, complications arise when a new intern, Harris Dickinson, joins her company, leading to an affair. The film is set to be released in U.S. theaters by A24 on December 25.
