Nicki Minaj is currently embroiled in a legal dispute initiated by an individual who asserts that he was her former manager. Brandon Garrett alleges that the rapper assaulted him physically in the backstage area during a concert held in Detroit in April 2024, as reported by TMZ.
The lawsuit outlines an initial verbal altercation that escalated into a forceful slap, which allegedly dislodged Garrett's hat and left him in a state of physical distress. In reaction to these allegations, Minaj's attorney has characterized the claims as “false and frivolous.”
Nicki Minaj faces a lawsuit by former manager
The lawsuit claims that Minaj became furious upon learning that Garrett, her daily manager, had previously requested another individual to collect her prescriptions.
In the legal documents, Garrett recounted the event, asserting that the singer of "Barbie World" shouted in anger, “Are you out of your mind for having him pick up my prescription? You’ve completely lost it, and if my husband were present, he would knock your teeth out.” She allegedly continued, “You’re finished. You’ve ruined your life, and I will ensure you never achieve anything.”
Garrett further alleged that Minaj then struck him on the right side of his face, declaring that his "life was over." The lawsuit states that the impact of the slap caused his hat to fly off. Subsequently, she reportedly hit him on the wrist, resulting in the documents he was holding scattering to the ground.
The former tour employee expressed that he was left feeling shaken and traumatized by the encounter, fearing for his safety and remaining locked in a restroom for several hours afterwards.
Garrett explained that he contacted the Chicago Police Department upon returning from his flight, citing concerns for his safety and uncertainty regarding the status of his belongings.
Additionally, the lawsuit claims that Minaj's team abandoned him in Detroit after the incident, leaving him without support. Harrington is now pursuing damages for the alleged assault and the emotional distress he experienced.
Nicki Minaj's attorney responds
“At this time, no complaint has been served upon Mrs Petty, and therefore, we are unaware of the specific allegations," Nicki’s lawyer Judd Burstein told TMZ referring to the rapper's original name Onika Tanya Maraj-Petty
"However, if the lawsuit is as reported by TMZ, it is completely false and frivolous. We are confident that the matter brought by this ex-assistant will be resolved swiftly in Mrs Petty’s favour.”
