"Never Felt Safer": John Abraham’s Take on Being a Minority in India
5 days ago | 5 Views
John Abraham, currently in the spotlight for his film The Diplomat, has made some striking assertions in a recent interview. He stated that he has "never felt safer" in India, a statement that stands in stark contrast to the troubling incidents reported in the country. With a surge in cases of violence against women and caste-based assaults, many individuals in contemporary India feel anything but secure. John attributes his sense of safety to his status as a minority, suggesting that he remains unaffected by such occurrences.
Here's everything the actor said...
John Abraham has 'never felt safer' in India
In an interview with Times Now, John Abraham expressed that he has "never felt safer" in his homeland. He highlighted his diverse heritage, noting that his mother is Zoroastrian (Parsi-Irani) and his father is a Syrian Christian. When questioned about the safety concerns of minorities in India, it is worth mentioning that John has not been a target of hostility from certain groups, likely due to the perception that his name does not pose a threat. Should he be identified as Iranian, he might face similar risks as others in India, as these groups often associate Iran with Islam. Additionally, his name does not align with those commonly found among Muslims, which many of Parsi-Irani descent possess.
"Safe probably because I'm an actor," says John Abraham
John remarked, "Probably because I'm an actor, people might argue that they either like or dislike me for various reasons. But I am a minority." It is important to note that fellow actors Salman Khan and Saif Ali Khan, who also belong to minority communities, have faced threats, including attacks on their homes. Reports indicate that even a prominent Bollywood figure like Shah Rukh Khan has had to enhance his security, suggesting that the threats may indeed be genuine. Therefore, asserting that actors are inherently safe may not be a wise conclusion, John.
John Abraham not a woman to comment on the matter
The primary threat in contemporary India is directed towards women. This assertion is supported by the fact that the state perceived as the safest for Indian women has garnered significant attention due to the ongoing incidents occurring in the very area where the initial event transpired. It appears that the inquiry was directed towards the inappropriate gender, caste, and profession. Unsurprisingly, privilege has influenced the discourse. Those who have experienced this threat, whether living or deceased, take pride in their nation but are yearning for genuine justice and the opportunity to witness a safer India.
