Six years following the release of Bypass Road, Neil Nitin Mukesh made his comeback with the new project, Hisaab Barabar. Directed by Ashwni Dhir, this satirical thriller features Neil in the role of Mickey Mehta, the proprietor of Do Bank. Set against a backdrop of financial deceit, Hisaab Barabar premiered on ZEE5 on January 24, 2025. After the film's debut, OTTplay conducted an exclusive interview with Neil, during which he discussed the difficulties he faced in portraying Mickey's character.
Neil Nitin Mukesh on portraying Mickey in Hisaab Barabar
In our discussion, Neil Nitin Mukesh expressed that crafting his character, Mickey Mehta, was a complex task. He noted that Mickey required a distinctive flair to resonate with the audience. Elaborating on this, Neil stated to OTTplay, "In a typical commercial film, when embodying an antagonist, there is a tendency to exaggerate the character—preparing for an inevitable downfall, of course."
The actor continued, "This role presented unique challenges. Why? Because while attempting to portray Mickey Mehta as larger than life and infusing entertainment, I also had to incorporate a comedic element while maintaining a sense of realism. He cannot be excessively flamboyant, especially since Radhe Mohan (played by R Madhavan) is such a relatable character, embodying the 'guy next door.' Therefore, Mickey Mehta must not be so exaggerated that he becomes incongruous."
Neil emphasized the necessity of achieving a well-balanced portrayal of Mickey's character, which posed challenges from both an acting and writing perspective. He remarked that he had never before played a character with such a comedic aspect as Mickey.
"I have portrayed numerous antagonists, but this was the first time I had to be goofy, to unexpectedly break into a dance, or to emerge from a car while wearing a coat jacket, among other things. This approach provides the audience with a touch of comic relief while simultaneously delivering a powerful message," Neil shared.
