‘Neech and a Liar’: Javed Akhtar’s Fiery Reply to Troll Who Falsely Accused Him of Fat-Shaming
2 months ago | 5 Views
Veteran lyricist Javed Akhtar recently expressed his admiration for Virat Kohli’s performance during India’s Champions Trophy semi-final match against Australia on social media. However, he became incensed after a troll falsely accused him of fat-shaming Rohit Sharma.
Javed Akhtar praises Virat
The lyricist lauded Virat Kohli and extended his congratulations to Team India for their triumph over Australia on X (formerly Twitter). He stated, “Once again, Virat has demonstrated that he is the most formidable pillar of contemporary Indian cricket! Hats off!!” In response, one user commented, “If Virat is the strongest pillar, then what does that make Rohit Sharma? The heaviest pillar? Shame on you, Javed saab, for fat-shaming the Indian captain.”
Javed slams troll
This accusation infuriated Javed, who vehemently defended himself against the troll's claims, stating, “Be quiet, you cockroach. I hold immense respect for Rohit Sharma and all the illustrious Indian cricketers in Test history. What sort of vile and despicable liar are you to assert that I have ever disrespected a great player like Rohit Sharma? Have you ever considered why you are such a contemptible and repugnant individual?”
This incident follows Congress leader Shama Mohamed's suggestion that Indian captain Rohit Sharma should "lose weight" in a tweet. She remarked, "Rohit Sharma is overweight for a sportsman! He needs to shed some pounds! Moreover, he is the most unimpressive captain India has ever had! What distinguishes him as world-class compared to his predecessors? He is a mediocre captain and player who was fortunate to become the captain of India." Her comments incited considerable backlash, prompting her to delete the tweet.
When Javed Akhtar slammed troll for communal remarks
Previously, following India's triumph over Pakistan in the Champions Trophy, Javed Akhtar encountered derogatory communal comments from online trolls. One individual remarked, “Javed, Babar's father is Kohli. Say, ‘Jai Shree Ram.’” In response, Javed stated, "I can only say that you are a despicable person and will remain so until your end. What do you understand about patriotism?"
India advanced to the Champions Trophy final after a thrilling semi-final victory against Australia. With Virat Kohli contributing a half-century, Shreyas Iyer and Hardik Pandya delivering impressive performances, and KL Rahul clinching the win with a six, India is now poised to compete in the final on March 9.
