Nayanthara: Beyond the Fairy Tale, a recent documentary available on Netflix India, has attracted significant attention, especially for its insights into the actress's romantic relationship with her husband, filmmaker Vignesh Shivan. In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter India, Nayanthara discussed her decision to refrain from sharing posts about her husband on her Instagram account.
On not posting about Vignesh
Nayanthara expressed, "The positive aspects of my life at present are largely a result of his vision. However, if I begin to acknowledge him during this interview, the initial reactions will likely be negative, with comments such as, 'Oh my god! She’s started praising her husband.' We have reached a stage where I find it challenging to speak positively about him. I have come to a point where I hesitate to share an Instagram Story. Naturally, I would refrain from posting while he is beside me; I would share only when I genuinely miss him or when he has done something truly wonderful that I wish to celebrate with others. Yet, whenever I do share, I am met with numerous comments questioning, 'Oh my god! Do they deserve this?' Some of the remarks are quite harsh. Consequently, we have decided to refrain from such posts. I wish to acknowledge him appropriately, but I find it increasingly difficult. Nevertheless, I believe that one day, I will be able to do so."
On the scrutiny of their relationship
Nayanthara addressed the criticism she faces for her choice of partner, Vignesh, who is perceived as less "successful" than she is. She remarked, “He began his career later than I did. I have been in the industry since I was 18, and he became a director at 21, which is commendable! Typically, at that age, one would be an assistant director. He is exceptionally intelligent and knowledgeable; he can answer any question posed to him. His sense of humour brings joy to my life, and he is a devoted family man. The negativity directed towards him may stem from the fact that he has not consistently delivered blockbuster films or that there are significant intervals between his projects. Additionally, my established success may contribute to this unfair comparison. It is unjust to juxtapose our careers, as we are two distinct individuals. Would such comparisons be made if the roles were reversed?”
Nayanthara also mentioned that she refrains from discussing her scripts with Vignesh, as it could disrupt the directors' creative visions. Conversely, he enjoys sharing his scripts with her, appreciating her attentive listening skills. Nayanthara is set to appear in Mannangatti In 1960, while Vignesh is currently directing Love Insurance Kompany.
