Nayanthara, often referred to as the "Lady Superstar," has expressed her discomfort with this designation. In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter India, she revealed her opposition to being labelled as ‘Lady Superstar.’

Regarding the title, she stated

“The backlash I have faced due to this title is astonishing. For the last five to six years, I have implored my producers and directors not to include that title card in any of my films. I fear that my career should not be defined by such labels. I am not attempting to take away anyone else's title; it holds no significant meaning for me. However, it does carry some weight due to the affection and respect I receive from my audience. This title was not something I conceived overnight and demanded to be used. We live in an intelligent world where audiences cannot be deceived. Success is not solely a personal endeavour; it is a collective experience,” Nayanthara explained.

On the subject of her male co-stars

while her fans celebrate her as “Lady Superstar,” some critics have long referred to her Chandramukhi co-star Rajinikanth simply as “Superstar.” Nayanthara clarified her stance, emphasizing her respect for her male counterparts. “I cannot claim to be independent of my male co-stars. I believe my women-centric films have performed exceptionally well. My following has been significantly influenced by the prominent superstars I have collaborated with, particularly at the start of my career and even now. Their fan bases contribute to my own, creating a cumulative effect,” she remarked.

The actress acknowledged the contributions of Tamil icons such as Rajinikanth, Ajith, and Vijay, as well as Malayalam legends like Mohanlal and Mammootty, in enhancing her popularity.
