Nayanthara recently garnered attention following the release of her documentary film, Nayanthara: Beyond the Fairytale. She authored an open letter directed to actor-producer Dhanush, expressing her disappointment over his refusal to allow the use of footage from their collaborative project, Naanum Rowdy Dhaan. In a recent interview, Nayanthara elaborated on the matter, specifically discussing the circumstances that led her to compose the open letter to her co-star from Yaaradi Nee Mohini.

Nayanthara Speaks Out on Dhanush Feud: "I Tried to Reach Out, But..."

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter India, Nayanthara was inquired about her decision to confront a well-known figure like Dhanush. She explained that the matter was not intended to be brought up just prior to the documentary's release and disclosed that the legal notice arrived at a crucial moment for them to address and respond to it.

For those unfamiliar with the situation, Nayanthara authored a three-page letter criticizing Dhanush for denying them permission to use footage from Naanum Rowdy Dhan, while also addressing his discourteous and arrogant demeanour.

During the discussion, Nayanthara recognized that both sides have their supporters, but emphasized that the controversy was not orchestrated as a public relations manoeuvre. She stated, “The controversy arose because I chose to speak out, and I felt compelled to express my thoughts publicly. I genuinely attempted to reach out to him for a direct explanation regarding the issue. There were numerous calls made by Vignesh (Shivan) to his manager, facilitated through mutual friends. However, none of these efforts proved successful. Ultimately, we reached a stage where we decided against using the clips, and we were prepared to accept his decision not to provide a No Objection Certificate, as it is his film.”

"I Just Wanted a Phone Call to Clear the Air": Nayanthara on Her Dhanush Feud

Nayanthara expressed her desire to incorporate the four lines penned by Vignesh Shivan in Naanum Rowdy Dhaan, which encapsulated their relationship. She emphasized the significance of these lines for the documentary, stating, “I am not one to impose obligations on others. However, I believed these lines were crucial for the project. I genuinely expected him to be the first to agree.” She further clarified that she and Dhanush were not adversaries by nature, having shared a good friendship in the past.

“I reached out to the manager, which is not my usual practice, and conveyed that we could proceed without a No Objection Certificate. However, we wished to use those four lines, which you are reluctant to allow. I simply requested a phone call with him to clarify the situation and to ascertain if he harboured any resentment towards us,” Nayanthara stated.

Dhanush was the producer of Naanum Rowdy Dhaan, a film directed by Vignesh Shivan and featuring Nayanthara alongside Vijay Sethupathi. This film marked the beginning of Nayanthara's romantic relationship with Vignesh, which ultimately led to their marriage.
