Naseeruddin Shah talks about Mohanlal and Mammootty
Naseeruddin Shah recently visited Kerala to take part in the Kerala Literature Festival. In a chat with The Hindu, he shared his thoughts on his experience in Malayalam cinema and talked about the legendary Mammootty and Mohanlal.
Shah expressed how much he enjoyed collaborating with the "great actor" Mammootty in the well-received film Ponthan Mada. He also highlighted how fortunate Malayalam cinema is to have stars like Mammootty and Mohanlal who have leveraged their fame to support quality films. “It’s great that they’re open to working with new talent in smaller budget projects,” he added.

It's pretty uncommon in India to see stars of that level doing stuff like this, he mentioned, adding that he hopes some of the Hindi stars would also take part in films that deserve to be watched.
On another note, Mammootty and Mohanlal are set to star in a movie directed by Mahesh Narayanan.
Ponthan Mada
Ponthan Mada, directed by T V Chandran, starred Mammootty and Naseeruddin Shah. It's actually the only Malayalam movie Shah has appeared in. The film bagged 4 National Film Awards, with Mammootty taking home the Best Actor award.

Mammootty took on the role of Ponthan Mada, while Naseeruddin Shah played Sheema Thampuran in the film that explored the unexpected friendship between these two characters. In an interview with The Hindu, Naseeruddin Shah mentioned that he had a tough time with the Malayalam lines in the movie.
Meanwhile, Naseeruddin Shah's most recent appearance was in Sonu Sood’s Fateh, which hit theaters on January 10, 2025. He also featured in the Netflix series IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack, which came out last year.
