Telugu producer Naga Vamsi, known for his support of successful films such as Lucky Baskhar and Tillu Square in 2024, recently garnered significant attention after engaging in a producer's roundtable discussion where he expressed views that contrasted with those of Hindi film producer Boney Kapoor. Naga Vamsi says he means “no disrespect” towards Boney Kapoor
As 2024 draws to a close, producers Naga Vamsi and Boney Kapoor, along with several other industry figures, participated in a recent roundtable discussion hosted by a YouTube channel. During this dialogue, Naga Vamsi highlighted the significant influence of South Indian cinema on Hindi films, particularly in light of the numerous successes the former has achieved in 2024.
Naga Vamsi emphasized that while profitability is a key consideration in producing risky films with unconventional themes, Boney Kapoor countered this perspective by citing the example of "Jathi Rathnalu," produced by the team behind "Kalki 2898 AD," which yielded substantial profits. The discussion became particularly intense when Naga Vamsi asserted that Hindi films are largely confined to the regions of Juhu and Bandra.
The exchange sparked considerable backlash on social media, with some users criticizing Naga Vamsi for his perceived disrespect towards Boney Kapoor. Director Hansal Mehta was among those who publicly condemned Vamsi's remarks as disrespectful to Kapoor.
What did Naga Vamsi respond?
Industry analyst Sumit Kadel criticized Naga for showing disrespect towards Boney Kapoor, deeming it unnecessary. He stated, “It is important to remember that the Hindi box office has significantly contributed to the broader success of South Indian films. While criticism can be constructive, disrespect is unacceptable. ARROGANCE LEADS TO DOWNFALL, a principle that applies universally across all industries,” he expressed on X.
In response, Naga Vamsi asserted that they hold elders in high regard and that no guidance is required.
“There is no need for you to instruct us on how to honour our elders; we have greater respect for Boney ji than you may realize, and there was no disrespect intended towards him in that discussion,” he remarked, noting that the exchange was constructive, culminating in a hug between them.
