Actor Naga Chaitanya recently expressed his confusion regarding the ongoing discussion about nepotism. During an appearance on the Raw Talks with VK podcast, he characterized the issue as a straightforward matter, devoid of ambiguity. Here are his remarks.

Naga Chaitanya on nepotism

When questioned about nepotism, particularly in light of his lineage—his father being Nagarjuna and his grandfather Akkineni Nageswara Rao—Chaitanya was prompted to consider whether filmmakers might hesitate to offer opportunities to non-star children for fear of alienating established families.

In response, Chaitanya provided what the host described as a predictable answer, stating, “To me, it is a black-and-white issue. If your child aspires to enter the same profession, would you dissuade them? It is that simple, which is why I fail to grasp the debate. While I advocate for equal treatment for all, it is neither my fault nor my father's that I chose to pursue acting. He would not discourage me simply because it might be perceived as nepotism.”

Chaitanya further asserted that once individuals enter the film industry, they are treated on equal footing. He remarked, “On a serious note, when Friday arrives, if my film is subpar but a newcomer’s is well-received, the audience will choose the latter. Stars have experienced rapid declines in popularity; this has occurred in the past. Although I have had advantages due to my family background, once we are in the industry, we are all on equal ground.”

Recent work

Chaitanya has not yet revealed details about his forthcoming projects. His latest film, Chandoo Mondeti’s Thandel, premiered in theaters on Friday. This marks his third collaboration with Chandoo, following Premam and Savyasachi. It is also his second project with Sai Pallavi, who stars alongside him in Thandel, after Sekhar Kammula’s Love Story. According to the producers, the film achieved his highest opening, grossing ₹21 crore worldwide.
