Naezy Declares Gully Boy a Fictional Tale: "My Dad Didn't Marry Twice"

2 months ago | 5 Views

Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt’s Gully Boy tells the story of Mumbai’s street rappers and is loosely inspired by the life of rapper Naezy. However, Naezy has expressed that the film added a lot of fictional elements, blurring the lines between reality and fiction, which he found somewhat frustrating.

Naezy talks about Gully Boy

In an interview, Naezy reflected on how Gully Boy affected his life. He explained, "Gully Boy is completely fictional. Nothing in it is true, like the part where he meets another rapper—that never happened. It’s all made up, far from reality." He added, “I found it a bit annoying because they didn’t show the truth, but then I realized that’s just how Bollywood works. It’s all about fiction. For example, my father didn’t marry twice as shown in the film. We understand what fiction is, but the audience will believe it’s my real life.”

Zoya Akhtar's Gully Boy

Directed by Zoya Akhtar, Gully Boy starred Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt and marked the film debut of Siddhant Chaturvedi. The movie also featured Vijay Raaz, Vijay Varma, Amruta Subhash, Kalki Koechlin, and Sheeba Chaddha in key roles. Co-produced by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani's Excel Entertainment and Zoya Akhtar's Tiger Baby Films, the film is inspired by the life of a rapper from Mumbai's Dharavi slums. It follows his musical journey, drawing heavy influences from real-life artists like Divine and Naezy. Released in 2019, Gully Boy was a massive success.
