Naga Vamsi is a name that needs no introduction. Currently, he is one of the most popular and successful producers in Telugu cinema, with a string of back-to-back hits to his credit. His recent film, Lucky Baskhar, starring Dulquer Salmaan, became a box office smash hit, earning him massive profits. He also secured a lucrative deal for the film’s OTT rights and is thriving in his production ventures.
NBK109 OTT platform details are here
Next up is NBK109, featuring Nandamuri Balakrishna in the lead role. The action drama is being produced on a grand scale, and Naga Vamsi, as the producer, locked in the OTT rights at a substantial price, planning to release the film during the Dussehra season in 2024.
However, this did not materialize, and NBK109 missed both the Diwali and Christmas release windows. As a result, the dynamics of the OTT deal have shifted. We’ve now learned that Netflix has revised its terms, reducing the payment to Naga Vamsi by Rs 5 crore for not meeting the agreed release timeline.
The delay in the film’s release has cost him up to Rs 5 crore in losses. In the past year, OTT platforms such as Netflix and Amazon Prime Video have been setting strict terms, offering substantial payments to producers if they agree to stream their films on specified dates.
For example, Ravi Teja's Mr. Bachchan was sold to Netflix and streamed on OTT within three weeks of its release. Similarly, Swag, another recent release, was available on Amazon Prime Video just fifteen days after its theatrical release due to a high payout from the platform.
In this scenario, where OTT platforms are dictating release dates, Naga Vamsi chose to delay the release of NBK109, leading to financial losses. However, he remains confident that whenever the action drama is released, it will perform strongly at the box office.
Directed by Bobby, the film stars Urvashi Rautela as the female lead, with Thaman scoring the music. NBK109 is now slated for release during the Sankranthi festival in January 2025. Stay tuned for more updates on this project.
