Munawar Faruqui’s ‘Hafta Vasooli’ Faces Backlash Over Religious Insult, Vulgarity Allegations

A formal complaint has been lodged against stand-up comedian and Bigg Boss 17 champion Munawar Faruqui concerning his JioHotstar program, Hafta Vasooli. Advocate Amita Sachdeva shared a copy of her complaint on X (formerly known as Twitter), asserting that the complaint alleges the offence of religious sentiments and the promotion of obscenity.

The advocate shared screenshots of an email requesting the registration of a First Information Report (FIR) under BNS Sections 196, 299, and 353, in addition to the IT Act and other pertinent laws. The complaint asserts that the web series in question "disparages various religions," "breaches cultural norms," and contributes to "corrupting the youth and society at large."

The advocate's caption states, "A complaint has been lodged against Munawar Faruqui (@munawar0018)! I have formally submitted a complaint against the repeat offender Munawar Faruqui for his program 'Hafta Wasooli' aired on @JioHotstar, seeking an FIR under BNS Sections 196, 299, and 353, as well as the IT Act and other applicable sections for: Encouraging vulgarity, Disparaging multiple religions, Breaching cultural norms, and Corrupting the youth and society. The complaint has been dispatched via email and will be physically submitted and sent by speed post on Monday. Should no action be taken, I will seek judicial intervention to ensure that justice is served!"

The Hindu Janajagruti Samiti had also demanded a ban on Hafta Vasooli. They wrote on X, “We demand an immediate ban on #HaftaVasooli airing on Jio Hotstar! In this show, @munawar uses foul language, which is unacceptable for public viewing. It sinks moral values. Streaming platforms must act responsibly! @JioHotstar @MIB_India #JioHotstar_Ban_HaftaVasooli @UdayMahurkar @SachdevaAmita."

The show debuted on February 14 on the OTT platform.

He asked a contestant, “Would you prefer to watch your parents engage in sexual activity for the remainder of your life, or would you participate once and then cease it forever?” This incident has led to the filing of multiple FIRs against Ranveer, Samay, and other influencers featured in the episode, prompting discussions in the Supreme Court. In response, Samay has taken down all episodes of the show from YouTube.
