Mr. India holds a special place in our hearts, evoking nostalgia with its mention. Although categorised as an action movie, it was a trailblazer in the science fiction genre, being the first of its kind in Bollywood. The innovative special effects used by the filmmakers further cemented its status as an evergreen classic. Given its significance and enduring popularity, the idea of a remake would likely be met with some controversy. And actress Janhvi Kapoor, whose mother Sridevi starred in the hit film along with Anil Kapoor, recently gave her reasons for why Mr. India should not be remade.

Janhvi Kapoor doesn't want Mr. India to be remade

In an interview with Pinkvilla while promoting her film Ulajh, Janhvi was asked her opinion on the remake of Mr. India and if she would like to star in it. Surprisingly, Janhvi said that she is completely against the movie being remade.

She shared that a film like Mr. India should not be touched and that filmmakers should leave it alone. She soon became diplomatic and said that it was not her place to comment on the matter, but Janhvi added that the film industry shouldn't force things and meddle with something as "pure" as film like Mr. India.

Released in 1989, Mr. India is a classic Bollywood movie that revolutionised Indian cinema with its groundbreaking visual effects, paving the way for more such movies. Director Shekhar Kapur’s technical mastery and innovative storytelling style shine bright in the movie, while the late Amrish Puri's dialogues as the villain Mogambo are popular even today.

The movie’s unique blend of science fiction, drama, romance, and action, coupled with outstanding performances by Anil Kapoor and Sridevi, were a hit with both critics and audience, making it one of the biggest box office hits of the time.

Janhvi is currently gearing up for the release of her film Ulajh, a thriller drama. The movie is about a brilliant and ambitious young IFS officer, Suhana Bhatia, who belongs to a family of freedom fighters. She receives a prestigious post, but it is far away from her home. She gets entangled in a web of deceit and conspiracies that force her to confront those in power. She must summon the courage to protect her reputation and her nation.
