Actor Moushumi Chatterjee is recognized for her candidness. The seasoned actor has consistently been forthright and is known as someone who would not tolerate any misconduct. There were accounts of her retaliating against and even striking male co-stars if they overstepped boundaries. In a recent interview, Moushumi talked about that and how her forthrightness cost her acting opportunities.

Moushumi Chatterjee on slapping male actors

In an interview with Subhash K Jha, Moushumi recalled the times she 'slapped actors who misbehaved. ' The actor remarked, "They deserved it; they were sexist, but I don’t blame them for this. One must consider both sides of the situation. The heroes would flirt with the heroines, expecting the heroines to respond in kind. That was the only method they understood. Men grow up with mothers indulging them, wives doting on them, and sisters spoiling them. "

During the same interview, Moushumi also discussed how she never compromised her dignity and the impact it had on her receiving fewer roles. When questioned about her replacement in Gulzar's Koshish by Jaya Bachchan, Moushumi stated, "That’s because I would never compromise with my dignity, no matter what. All of that is behind me. Gulzar and I reconciled and worked together on Angoor many years later. Interestingly, Haribhai (Sanjeev Kumar) was my leading man in both Koshish and Angoor. I lost many roles since I refused to cater to anyone’s ego. "
