The Breakfast Club actress shared her thoughts on being called a 'muse' by Hughes, saying, “He told me that, but at that age, I didn’t really have anything to compare it to.” The Pretty in Pink star reflected that being his muse “didn’t seem odd” back then since she was “only 15.” “I didn’t have much life experience,” she noted, adding that “now, it feels different.”
When Lewinsky asked if it felt “strange, still complimentary or strange weird, strange creepy?” Ringwald replied, “Well, yeah, it’s a bit odd.” She acknowledged that it’s always felt flattering, but looking back, she sees there was something unusual about it.
Ringwald reminisced about how Hughes wrote Sixteen Candles after seeing her headshot when she was just 15, while he was in his 30s. “It’s a complicated situation,” the For Keeps star admitted.
“It’s definitely complex, and I often think about how it all impacted me,” Ringwald said regarding her connection with Hughes. “I feel like I’m still working through it, and I probably will be for the rest of my life,” she added.
After Hughes passed away at 59 in 2009, Ringwald wrote in an op-ed for the New York Times that they hadn’t spoken in over 20 years before his death from a heart attack.
