Mohanlal, one of the biggest stars in Malayalam cinema, has appeared in over 300 films, with classics like Manichitrathazhu, Kireedam, Bharatham, Drishyam, and Pulimurugan under his belt. At the trailer launch for his new movie, Barroz, in Mumbai, he shared his thoughts on the remakes of his films.
"Many of my movies have been remade in Hindi, and Akshay ji has taken on some of those roles. You really can’t compare actors; it’s a whole different ball game. Everything from the costumes to the characters and body language changes. I really enjoy his films and have watched a lot of the ones Priyadarshan has remade. Akshay is an amazing actor—super punctual and truly passionate about his work. He’s a total pro, while I wouldn’t say I’m quite at that level," Mohanlal said, giving a shoutout to Akshay.

Akshay has had some major hits like Bhool Bhulaiyaa and Garam Masala, which were actually remakes of Mohanlal's popular Malayalam films from the 90s. Priyadarshan directed both the originals and the remakes. Recently, Akshay attended the trailer launch of Barroz as the chief guest. He expressed his admiration for Mohanlal, mentioning that he’s watched a lot of his movies.
“I’m just like everyone else; I’m a big fan of Mohanlal, sir. I’ve seen tons of his films. I remember your first movie where you played a villain back in 1980. And then there was Chitaram, directed by our buddy Priyadarshan sahab. I’ve watched many of those films with subtitles, even though I don’t speak the language,” Akshay shared.
About Barroz
Barroz is a 3D fantasy flick inspired by Jijo Punnoose’s novel, Barroz: Guardian of Da Gama's Treasure. The visuals are captured by cinematographer Santosh Sivan, with music by Lydian Nadhaswaran and Mark Kilian.
Produced by Antony Perumbavoor of Aashirward Cinemas in collaboration with Pen Studios, Barroz is set to be released in 3D and will be available in Hindi, Malayalam, Telugu, Tamil, and Kannada. The film is scheduled to hit theaters on December 27.
