Veteran actor Mithun Chakraborty debuted with the art house drama Mrigayaa (1976). The 74-year-old actor has done several popular films in his celebrated career. Recently, it has been announced that he will be honored with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award. Reacting to the news, the veteran actor expressed his gratefulness and gratitude. On the other hand, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also congratulated him. 

Mithun Chakraborty on receiving Dadasaheb Phalke Award

Speaking to ANI, the three-time National-Award-winning actor Mithun Chakraborty said that he dedicated this award to his family and all his fans around the world. 

"Where I come from, from a blind alley in Kolkata, I never imagined that a boy from the footpath could receive such a big honor," the actor-turned-politician said. 

He further added that he is "dumbfounded". "I can't smile, I can't cry with happiness because a man from literally nowhere, a nobody, made it. This also proves what I always tell my fans and those who aren't financially strong: if I can make it, then you can do it too," he added.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the veteran actor on his official X handle. He penned, "Delighted that Shri Mithun Chakraborty Ji has been conferred the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award, recognizing his unparalleled contributions to Indian cinema. He is a cultural icon, admired across generations for his versatile performances. Congratulations and best wishes to him (sic)."

Information & Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw shared the news on X. He wrote, "Mithun Da’s remarkable cinematic journey inspires generations! Honoured to announce that the Dadasaheb Phalke Selection Jury has decided to award legendary actor, Sh. Mithun Chakraborty Ji for his iconic contribution to Indian Cinema."

The actor will be honored with the prestigious award at the 70th National Film Awards ceremony which will be held on October 8, 2024.

More about Mithun Chakraborty's career

The veteran actor has done several hits like Disco Dancer, Dance Dance, Pyar Jhukta Nahin, Kasam Paida Karne Wale Ki, and Commando, among others. Notably, he created a record by playing the lead roles in more than 100 films in a decade. His dance performances on songs like "I Am a Disco Dancer" and "Jimmy Jimmy" brought him immense fame.
