Michelle Trachtenberg faced significant mental and physical challenges in the year leading up to her untimely death, as reported by an insider to People on Wednesday, February 26. The source indicated that the Gossip Girl actress was experiencing profound emotional distress while contending with unspecified health issues.

“She confided in friends about her struggles,” the insider stated. “She was extremely unwell and candid with those close to her regarding her difficulties.”

Friends and admirers of the 39-year-old actress observed that she appeared “pale, gaunt,” and “very thin” in the days preceding her death. A neighbor remarked to US Weekly that Trachtenberg had become “svelte” and seemed to resemble her former self less and less in recent months.

On Wednesday morning, Trachtenberg suffered a cardiac arrest in her New York City apartment and was discovered by her mother around 8 a.m. The Harriet the Spy actress was pronounced dead at the scene upon the arrival of law enforcement.

The official cause of Trachtenberg's death has yet to be disclosed. However, authorities do not suspect foul play, as her passing is attributed to natural causes.

According to Page Six, Trachtenberg had recently undergone a liver transplant. It is possible that complications from the surgery, which occurred in 2024, contributed to her death, as reported by the outlet.

When fans expressed their worries last year, she reassured them by stating that she was “healthy and happy.” Concerns among fans intensified after she shared a selfie in January 2024, in which she appeared significantly different, prompting many to remark on her “sick” look.

In response to the comments, Trachtenberg criticized the “haters” for their remarks about her appearance. She challenged one commenter by asking, “How do I look sick? Did you lose track of time and forget that I’m not 14? I’m 38. It’s unfortunate that you would leave such a comment.”

In a subsequent post, Trachtenberg addressed the feedback, stating, “I have received numerous comments lately regarding my looks. I have never undergone plastic surgery; I am content and healthy. Please reflect on your words, haters.”

Additionally, she captioned another selfie with, “Fun fact. This is my face. No malnutrition, no issues. Why the need for hate? Check your calendar.”
